LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This acknowledgment demonstrates Chicago Palestine Film Festival’s commitment to partake in work that is aimed at ending the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism. As a Palestine film festival, we understand the importance of honoring Indigenous communities. The Chicago region is the traditional homelands of the Council of the Three Fires: The Odawa, Ojibwe and Potawatomi Nations. Many other Tribes, such as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, Peoria, Sioux, and Fox also called this region home. Historically, this land became a site of travel and healing for many Tribes as this area marks the intersection of various waterways. The Chicago Palestine Film Festival believes it is important that we honor the Indigenous communities of the region and recognize that they continue to pass on their traditions, care for the land and waterways and continue their struggles for self-determination.
